(Set To Music) About two thousand years ago, You might have been the one to find And on that night, long years ago, If with the shepherds you had sat If with the Wise Men from the East The ever watching now was past But wait, my friend! You look so sad! The tidings that the angels brought The message still rings out today -- Fayma Caraway Johns (c) 1983
If with two trav'lers you had been,
You might have been the one to ask
A place to rest them at the Inn.
The cattle stall, the bed of hay
Where, wrapped about in swaddling clothes,
So quietly the Baby lay.
If with the shepherds you had been,
You would have heard the heav'nly host
Say, "Peace on earth, good will to men!"
That marvelous and awesome night,
You would have heard the voices sweet --
You would have seen the wondrous sight!
You, too, had traveled from afar,
You'd know how greatly they rejoiced
To find the Child beneath the Star!
And fear of Herod could not dim
The realization of their hopes,
The joy they felt when they found Him.
I thought I heard you say,
"I missed it all -- I wasn't there
When they found Jesus Christ that day."
Have grown still sweeter through the years
To all the souls who trust in Him
To wipe away all doubts and fears.
Just listen to the angel's voice:
"For unto YOU is born this day
A Saviour" . . . Now with us rejoice!
