WHAT IS YOUR LIFE?

James 4:13-15

INTRODUCTION:

The question often arises, "What is life?"

We are born into this world and, from that hour onward, we are faced with death.

It is said that a ruling monarch requested his scribes to write a history of man. After many volumes had been written, he demanded that it be condensed, after which it was the size of a postage stamp:

"He lived . . . He suffered . . . He died."

In answer to the question, "WHAT IS LIFE?", the Bible gives this answer:

1. Life Is A Gift From God.

God is the author of life (Gen. 2:7).

God holds the issues of life (Psalm 68:20).

God sustains life (Psalm 121:8).

2. Life Offers A Challenge.

There is a challenge to receive Jesus as Savior (John 1:12).

There is a challenge to serve Jesus (Luke 9:23).

There is a challenge to do good to all men (Gal. 6:10).

3. Life Has Its Joy.

There is joy when a sinner comes home (Luke 15:6).

There is joy in worshipping Christ (Luke 24:52-53).

4. Life Has Its Sorrows.

Job became wearied with life (Job 10:18-20).

Shadow of death (Psalm 23).

Elijah became wearied with life (I Kings 19:4).

5. Life Is Brief.

Life is like a vapour (James 4:14).

Life is like a shadow (I Chron. 29:15).

6. Life Is Just One Step From Death (I Sam. 20:3).

A certain step -- appointed (Heb. 9:27).

An uncertain step -- don't know when.

An eternal step -- after death: judgment.

7. Life Is Everlasting.

Jesus came that life could be abundant (John 10:10).

Jesus gives eternal life (John 10:28).

The dead shall live (John 11:25-26).

CONCLUSION:

Life is a time to prepare for death and where you will spend eternity. Make preparation for death and eternity while there is time.

May those who grieve for departed loved ones seek the fellowship of Jesus Christ, and the comfort that He alone can give.

May the peace of God and the presence of His Holy Spirit keep you in peace now and forever.
