REVELATION 10

THE SEVENTH ANGEL

1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,

3 And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.

4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.

5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,

6 And sware by him [Jesus] that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein [Jesus], that there should be time no longer:

7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

In order to get the full benefit of this lesson, each student will need to open the Bible to the 12th chapter of the book of Daniel. The book of Revelation is, for the most part, revealing some unclear Scripture from another book of the Bible. For instance, I Cor. 15:51 says, "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed".  However, when we get to Rev. 3:16, the main part of the church is told, "So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth". Then in Rev. 3:21, only overcomers are invited:

"21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne."

The Holy Ghost had inspired Paul to write 15 chapters instructing the church at Corinth how to be ready to be among those who will be changed. The same is true about today's lesson. The answer to what Daniel was told to write in Daniel chapter 12 is cleared up in Rev. 10:1-7. That mighty angel spoken of in Rev. 10:1 is described in Daniel 12:1 as "Michael". Of course, we know that Michael is one of the archangels.

1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book (Dan. 12:1).

Speaking of Israel, the events spoken of in Dan. 12 were not for them to understand. But those of us that live in the "time of the end" can understand: once the angel stands upon the sea and earth, this that Daniel prophesied will come to pass in 3 ½ years.

4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased (Dan. 12:4).

7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever [Jesus] that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished (Dan. 12:7).

Daniel is told that he will come forth at the end of the tribulation.

13 But go thou thy way till the end [of the 3 ½ years] be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days (Dan. 12:13).

No prophecy that I can find has any Old Testament saint being caught up with the church saints of I Thess. 4:17.

Those who died before the flood of Noah's day are told that their resurrection will be when "the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints" (Jude verse 14). This was prophesied by Enoch:

14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints (Jude verse 14).

The pre-flood saints will come forth at the end of the tribulation. The Old Testament saints will come forth when the Lord comes with His saints.

4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south (Zech. 14:4).

This is when Jesus comes back to the earth: "...and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee" (Zech. 14:5).

25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: (Job 19:25-26).

Only the New Testament saints have the promise of being caught up (I Thess. 4:17). After the church overcomers are caught up, there will be seven years of tribulation. The last 3 ½ years will be worse than anything that has happened or ever will happen on earth (Matt. 24: 21).

To be saved by grace, scripturally baptized, and faithful in one of the Lord's churches is the only way to avoid the tribulation. Trust Jesus now!

THE LITTLE BOOK:

A BITTER PILL TO SWALLOW

Rev. 10:2-10:

2 And he had in his hand a little book open . . .

8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.

9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

Why was it sweet and bitter? The Lord puts preachers in a position so that if the preachers warn the wicked of their wickedness and responsibilities they (the preachers) will be rewarded; but if they don't warn the wicked and they (the wicked) die in their wickedness the preacher bears the punishment for their wickedness.

Read Eze. 2:2-3:18. Ezekiel was also told to eat a book. How can something be sweet in the mouth and bitter in the stomach? Notice how sweet the plan of salvation is:

8 For by grace [unmerited favor] are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast (Eph. 2:8-9).

How sweet! All people like to receive gifts.

But now the bitter!

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Eph. 2:10).

Now that isn't quite so sweet!

But talk about a real bitter pill to swallow! After receiving the gift of God we are commanded to tithe. Jesus demanded that once we have received "‚¦judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other [tithe] undone" (Matt. 23:23). Wow! That is bitter! We are not to tithe because of the law but because it is God's way of giving back to Him before the law.

8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth (Heb. 7:8).

This is after the resurrection of Jesus. It is important to notice that the Holy Ghost inspired the writer to go beyond the law to the days of Melchisedec which teaches us that tithing has always been God's principal way of giving (Heb. 7:2).

It has been said that you can shoot a Baptist in his heart and he will walk on ~ but if you shoot him in his billfold he will fall dead!

Sweet! Men and women are allowed to wear shorts, and women are allowed to go to church with their breasts half revealed.

Bitter!

2 . . . ¦make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.

3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man (Isa. 47:2-3).

Jesus despised the shame of being uncovered (Heb. 12:2).

Bitter!

9 ...Be not deceived: neither fornicators [single people having premarital sex], nor idolaters [those who use statues, pictures, or things to worship], nor adulterers [married people having illicit sex], nor effeminate [womanish], nor abusers of themselves with mankind [homosexuals or lesbians],

10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God (I Cor. 6:9-10).

Sweet!

11 And such were [past tense] some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God (I Cor. 6:11).

It is a sad thing to have lived more than 81 years and see the churches deteriorate to the point they have deteriorated. Let's all get rededicated by God's help. Sell out to Jesus! Trust Jesus and follow Him completely and even "bitter" becomes "sweet"!
